Installing the Game Using "Autorun" ============================================================= a.) Installing ChiX 1.0 The easiest method of installing ChiX 1.0 is to use the "Autorun" feature. Upon inserting the FIFA CD1 into your CD-ROM drive, you may be prompted with a "Dialog" screen. Select the language you wish to install. To continue, click 'Next'. The "Autorun" menu appears; select 'Install' to launch the ChiX 1.0 Installer. The 'CD Key' screen appears, enter the serial key found on the back of the CD case and click 'OK'. The next screen will enable you to decide where and how you want to install ChiX 1.0 -- perform a "Typical User" or an "Advanced User" install. The "Typical User" install (default setting) will install ChiX 1.0 to C:\Program Files\Chix\ ChiX 1.0 (where "C:\" is the drive that your current operating system is located). The "Advanced User" option brings you to another popup, which allows you to choose the install footprint size and the install location. b.) If for some reason your "Autorun" feature is disabled, you can install the program by running AUTORUN.EXE directly from the root directory of the CD. Note: Manually performing a second ChiX 1.0 install before uninstalling the original game files is not recommended. More specifically, installing into the same location twice can cause the game to malfunction. To avoid problems, the "Auto run" feature should be used for all installs and uninstalls. ============================================================= 3. DirectX 9.0b ============================================================= If you try to run the game without DirectX 9.0b installed, you will be prompted to upgrade before the game installation begins. For your convenience, we have included DirectX 9.0b on the FIFA CD1. Note: If you already have DirectX 9.0b (or higher) installed, it is not necessary to reinstall it. a.) Installing DirectX directly from CD ChiX 1.0 comes with DirectX 9.0b and will prompt you to install it during the installation process. If you would like to install it manually, make sure the FIFA CD1 is in the CD-ROM drive, and access the following path on your CD-ROM drive: "\DirectX\DXSETUP.EXE" Double-click on DXSETUP.EXE to begin DirectX 9.0b installation. b.) DirectX and supported hardware We recommend that ChiX 1.0 be run with DirectX 9.0b compatible sound cards and video cards. We also suggest you update your sound card and video card driver to the newest release from the vendor or chipset website. ============================================================= 4. Uninstalling ChiX 1.0 ============================================================= The simplest method of uninstalling ChiX 1.0 is to use "Uninstall ChiX 1.0" shortcut in the Start Menu (usually "Start Menu/All Programs/Chix/ChiX 1.0/Uninstall ChiX 1.0"). Windows also has an "Add/Remove Programs" Icon in the Control Panel that you can use to uninstall the game. ============================================================= 5. Memory Requirements ============================================================= a.) Memory requirements in Windows ChiX 1.0 requires a minimum of 128 MB of RAM to run the game (256 MB is required for Windows XP and Windows 2000). Note: The more system memory available, the better the game will perform in all areas. b.) Running the game under stressful Windows conditions At Electronic Arts we strive to bring you the best in graphics, audio and gameplay. We are always pushing the envelope of computer performance. While we have made every effort to ensure that ChiX 1.0 multi-tasks with all Windows applications, we recommend that you shut down other applications (including virus scanners) and run ChiX 1.0 by itself when possible. c.) Virtual memory We recommend that you let your operating system automatically manage the amount of virtual memory. IMPORTANT: When playing ChiX 1.0, you should keep the CD2 in your CD/DVD drive at all times. Failure to do so can result in serious problems, including being unable to continue the game. ============================================================= 6. Improving Game Speed ============================================================= There are several ways by which you can speed up the overall ChiX 1.0 experience: a.) Choose a larger install - the more data that is on your hard drive, the less time your PC needs to spend accessing the CD. b.) Adjust the resolution in Game Settings in My ChiX 1.0. c.) Lower the level of detail in Game Settings in My ChiX 1.0. d.) Disable the radar in Game Settings. e.) Turn the Commentary Volume all the way down in Game Settings. ============================================================= 7. Hot Keys ============================================================= The following hot keys can be used in the game to access certain functions more quickly: ESC - Pause Menu 2 = BROADCAST 3 = END TO END 6 = ACTION 8 = SIDELINE 9 = RADAR On/Off ============================================================= 8. Mouse, Keyboard and Controller Functionality ============================================================= You can use the mouse, keyboard or controller to navigate the game interface. Once you are on the Side select screen, you must move whichever input device you plan to use in the game to the left or the right to select your team.
