Not too bad but the platforming was abselutely S**T.

Graphics

Needs a lot of work. The aliens were nice but eveythig was just rubbish.

Sound

CRAP

Gameplay

Also CRAP. Some platforms are just hard to reach and some rooms especialy on the sky scraper level are hard to get out of. the platforming was just rubbish.

Just improve on that platformig or use static (even though I myself don't know how to use it but my Sonic 3 is way better than this without static)

Ah yes. Human from Space; this is a hard one to review. I say this because of the sheer potential the game has but is seriously lacking in this final release to date. Don’t get me wrong though, the game is good – but this is where the confusion arises.

Playing the game shows Miika’s ability to code and put levels together, but you can tell he’s a little inexperienced when it comes to creating nice game play using the built-in platform engine. Still confused? Let me explain. When you use The Games Factory, or Multimedia Fusion (1 or 2) you’ll know that there are certain aspects that can make a well programmed game become nothing more than frustrating and “naff”. Especially if you’re using the built-in engines, and not forgetting that the platform engine is the worst. In Human from Space, the character’s movement includes acceleration and deceleration which is damn right deadly because of the way it works; it makes the game feel so scruffy and unpolished. Just play the game and you’ll understand that. Also the character holds his gun out in front, but it’s a very frustrating aspect of the game because it gets caught on the ledges and such throughout the game and you can’t help but think the gun shouldn’t react with the background it should just be the character’s body. The whole point of this is that it becomes a mission and a challenge just to travel around the scenery when it shouldn’t be.

To be honest, that’s probably the downfall of 90% of all platform games that use the built in engine. And the saddest part of this is knowing it can be improved, you can make a nice game and engine without using a custom engine. My advice would be not to use acceleration and deceleration, don’t make the maximum speed too fast and create a basic character in a solid shape with no parts that stick out, and ensure you edit the way it works yourself in the event editor to avoid getting stuck to the ceiling, which also happens in this game.

Human from Space’s most impressive part is the atmosphere created, and I applaud this very much so! The music, sounds and graphics are chilling, and you can’t actually see your character’s face which causes a lot of mystery in this game. You don’t really know who you are. The story is brief (and badly written) and you just go through the game knowing nothing of what’s actually happening – I played it hoping that there was going to be a big ending and explanation to the game, but unfortunately there wasn’t. I knew nothing but what I read on the title screen.

Anyway I’m running out of time and am going to have to leave it at this. The game is worth playing – it’s complete and it’s got some good level designs including a half decent engine. Give it a go.
